Arthur Minion
Arthurs Profile:
Arthur Minion enjoyed his early childhood growing up with his younger brother and two younger sisters on the family farm in Clogrennane, Carlow. The landscape with it's magnificent views stretches for miles across the Barrow Valley to the Blackstairs and Wicklow Mountains. He was married to Susan in 2007 and has one daughter and two step sons.
He was ordained a priest of God through the Church of Ireland in 1992. After serving in parishes in Cork, Sligo, South Offaly and Wicklow he became rector of Wexford and Kilscoran Union and was appointed a Canon of Ferns Cathedral last year.
For Arthur painting and art is a language, a channel of communication, a means of communication. Painting and art are the means by which the artist can have a discussion with himself, with God or with other people. The canvas or board can bring together with paint, the thoughts, ideas, reasoning and documentation just as a writer may place words in a book. The completed piece feeds back the story to the artist - 'the picture that tells a thousand words'. As one reads a book and each builds the story and it's picture in the mind's eye, so the viewer of the art piece reads the painting and the work's expression too becomes personal and individual.
The living presence of God in people, in nature and in creation is a driving inspiration for Arthur. Paintings, while most often in abstract form, are very often an intense experience in their assembly and expression. Colour is strongly significant in form and expression. Paintings dealing with matters of 'Church' are almost always influenced by the use of the churches liturgical colours. Paintings differ from being very busy, sometimes even furious in nature, to being restful and calm. Most works are an embarking on a journey of exploration.
